How to use AI Smart Categorization
When you upload content to Content Camel, AI analyzes each asset and generates metadata suggestions—tags, content type, funnel stage, products, industries, regions, and descriptions. These suggestions appear on individual assets for admins to review and apply with one click, saving hours of manual tagging.
How it works
Smart Categorization runs automatically in the background when content is uploaded. There's no button to trigger it—by the time you view an asset, the AI has already analyzed it and stored its suggestions.
The suggestions appear in a "Smart Categorization" section on the asset detail view (both the quick-view panel and the full asset page). This section only appears when there are unapplied suggestions to review.
What AI suggests
Suggestion | Description |
|---|---|
Tags | Relevant topic tags based on the content |
Content Type | Document type (e.g., Case Study, Whitepaper, Data Sheet) |
Funnel Stage | Where it fits in the buyer journey (Awareness, Consideration, Decision) |
Products | Associated products mentioned or relevant to the content |
Industries | Target industries the content addresses |
Regions | Geographic regions the content is relevant to |
Description | An AI-generated summary of the content |
Reviewing suggestions
Accepting suggestions
Each suggestion appears as a teal badge with a + icon. Click a badge to apply it to the asset.
If the value exists in your workspace taxonomy (tags, content types, etc.), it's applied immediately
If the value is new, a confirmation dialog appears: "[value] is not in your [type] vocabulary. Adding it will make this available for all assets in your account." Click Add & Apply to create the new taxonomy value and apply it, or Cancel to skip
New values that aren't yet in your taxonomy are marked with a (new) label so you can spot them easily.
After applying, the badge turns green with a checkmark.
Editing the description
The suggested description appears as an editable text area. You can:
Accept as-is — Leave it and it's saved
Edit it — Click into the field, modify the text, and it auto-saves when you click away
Ignore it — Simply don't interact with it
Dismissing suggestions
There's no explicit dismiss button. Simply ignore any suggestions you don't want to apply. Once all suggestions for an asset have been applied, the Smart Categorization section disappears.
AI Smart Search (Smart Picks)
When Smart Categorization is enabled for your account, an AI-powered search enhancement also activates across the platform. When users search for content, Smart Picks appear alongside regular search results.
Smart Picks use the AI's understanding of your content to surface semantically relevant results—even when the exact keywords don't match. For example, searching "healthcare ROI" might surface a case study titled "Hospital Cost Savings Analysis" that wouldn't appear in a keyword search.
Smart Picks appear in:
The main asset library search
Collection builder (when adding content)
Collection detail (adding content drawer)
Site editor (adding assets)
Playbook (adding content to stages)
Who can see Smart Categorization
Admins see the Smart Categorization section on all assets and can apply suggestions
Regular users do not see the Smart Categorization section, but they benefit from AI-applied tags when searching and filtering
All users see Smart Picks in search results when the feature is enabled
Enabling Smart Categorization
Smart Categorization and AI Smart Search are enabled at the account level. Contact your Content Camel account representative or support team to enable this feature for your organization.
Best practices
Review suggestions regularly — Check new uploads for AI suggestions and apply the good ones. The more metadata your assets have, the better search and filtering works for your team
Don't blindly accept everything — AI suggestions are usually good but not perfect. Review each one, especially for new taxonomy values
Use it to maintain consistency — AI helps standardize tagging across your team. If the AI suggests "Case Study" and someone manually tagged a similar piece as "Customer Story," that's a chance to align
Trust the descriptions — AI-generated descriptions are a great starting point. Edit them to add your unique positioning, but don't ignore them
